RML Invests in SGM's P-5 WashlightsMoving light specialists, Richard Martin Lighting (RML), has made a major investment in SGM's new-generation LED portfolio, with the purchase of a large quantity of new P-5 RGBW wash lights. These were pressed straight into service on the BBC's Children In Need fundraiser, where they became a focal point in the children's programme Blue Peter, for which Lee Allen was the lighting designer. After having these low profile, high efficiency fixtures on his radar for some time RML operations manager, Steve Wells, decided the time was right to act and placed the order -- which included 43-degree and 21-degree interchangeable lens -- with SGM UK. Wells admits that the P-5's had been on his wish list for some time. And with such a flagship show as Children In Need coming up, it seemed like the ideal opportunity to showcase one of their latest purchases. Speaking of the acquisition, he said, "As a moving light specialist, we pride ourselves at remaining at the forefront of technology and this unit reflects the advances in LED technology. It is a small, compact, powerful LED wash light which is like no other we own." He also sensed that with the low running cost, quiet operation, color temperature and fast refresh rates -- combined with television's green policies -- he was onto a winner. "The versatility of the product, especially with its lens options, makes it perfect for studio, corporate, and architectural use and is also a dynamic response to some our lighting designers who had expressed an interest in them." One of these lighting designers was Allen, who had been keen to use them on the Blue Peter show, broadcast from Media City in Salford, after first seeing them set up in RML's demo room earlier on in the year. SGM UK's Matthew Wiseman, who facilitated the sale, added, "We're delighted that RML has invested in P-5. Steve and the team are well respected, having a full range of equipment on offer for rental and a wealth of experience." Wiseman continues, "This highlights the growing market demand for P-5 among the latest LED offerings from SGM since the purchase by Peter Johansen. We look forward to a bright future and partnership with RML as we continue to offer first class customer support." Now back in the RML warehouse Wells and his team anticipate huge potential for SGM's low profile P-5 lights. "Having the optional lens will offer great flexibility to the end user and consequently make them an extremely hirable unit," he says.
