Dora Award Nominees AnnouncedThe nominations are out for the Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which honor achievement in Toronto's performing arts community. In the category of outstanding set design, the nominees are Denyse Karn for The Penelopiad, at Nightwood Theatre; Ken MacDonald for Ghosts, at Soulpepper Theatre Company; Michael Levine, for Rigoletto, a new co-production of Canadian OperavCompany and English National Opera; Teresa Przybylski, for The Golden Dragon, at Tarragon Theatre; and Wilson Chin, for A Florentine Tragedy / Gianni Schicchi, at Canadian Opera Company. Nominees for outstanding costume design include Rae Smith and puppet designers, fabricators, and directors, Adrian Kohler with Basil Jones for Handspring Puppet Company, for the National Theatre Company production of War Horse; Denyse Karn, for The Penelopiad, at Nightwood Theatre; Judith Bowden, for Seussical, at Young People's Theatre; Michael Levine, for Rigoletto; and Terese Wadden, for A Florentine Tragedy / Gianni Schicchi. Among those nominated for outstanding lighting design are Alan Brodie, for Ghosts; Bonnie Beecher, for The Small Room at the Top of the Stairs, at Tarragon Theatre; Kimberly Purtell, for Crash, at Theatre Passe Muraille; Kimberly Purtell, for SVADBA - Wedding, at Queen of Puddings Music Theatre; and Kimberly Purtell, for Beckett: Feck It!, Queen of Puddings Music Theatre with Canadian Stage. In the category of outstanding sound design/composition, the nominees are Debashis Sinha, for Crash; John Gzowski, for Name in Vain (Decalogue Two), at Tarragon Theatre; John Wynne, for Andromache, at Necessary Angel; Christopher Shutt, for War Horse; and Thomas Ryder Payne, for The Small Room at the Top of the Stairs.
