Jeff Ravitz at Coachella, Stagecoach FestivalsJeff Ravitz was the director of broadcast lighting for this year's Coachella and Stagecoach Festivals in Indio, California. Ravitz interfaced with the festival designers (Jamie Jensen, Coachella Stage/PRG; Todd Roberts, Outdoor Stage/Visions Lighting; Bobby Grey/Felix Lighting; Matt Shimamoto/Sahara Stage) and the individual lighting directors of bands playing on five individual stages throughout the day on three consecutive weekends. The performances were webcast on YouTube and broadcast on Axs-TV, and achieved record viewership. Ravitz comments, "The mission is for the TV version to retain all the excitement and artistic integrity of the live show that the festival audience is seeing. The webcast and broadcast audiences see a different show, nevertheless, and the focus is much more directed at the performers and less, percentage-wise, at the big wide shot that shows the entire lighting system. Therefore, there is emphasis on making good-looking pictures of the closeups -- but, still in accordance with the style of the design. There is full sunlight for the first half of the day, but even that requires carefully placed fill light to look better on-camera." Ravitz's diverse range of recent projects include a Netflix comedy special starring Mike Epps, the 2015 Writers Guild Awards program, a pilot for a Game Show Network series, and the 2015 TED Conference in Vancouver.
