Sweeney Todd, Soutra Gilmour, and Others Win at London Evening Standard Awards

James Corden served as host for the London Evening Standard Awards held November 25 at London's Savoy Theatre. Soutra Gilmour was honored with the Best Design Award for her work in Inadmissible Evidence at Donmar Warehouse and Antigone at The Royal National Theatre's Olivier Theatre.

Other awards included: Constellations by Nick Payne at the Royal Court Upstairs for best play; the Ned Sherrin Award For Best Musical to Sweeney Todd at the Chichester Festival and the Adelphi; the Beyond Theatre Special Award to Danny Boyle and his team for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics; and the Moscow Art Theatre's Golden Seagull to Dame Judi Dench. The Lebedev Special Award went to Nicholas Hytner for his directorship of the National Theatre, and David Hare won the Editor's Award for his contribution to theatre.

Nicholas Hytner was named best director for Timon of Athens at National Theatre's Olivier Theatre while Simon Godwin won the Burberry Award for Emerging Director. The Charles Wintour Award for Most Promising Playwright went to Lolita Chakrabarti for her play Red Velvet at Tricycle. Simon Russell Beale of Collaborators at National Theatre's Cottesloe Theatre took home the best actor award, while Natasha Richardson was honored as best actress for her role as Hattie Morahan in A Doll's House at the Young Vic. Matthew Tennyson won the Milton Shulman Award for Outstanding Newcomer for his role in Making Noise Quietly at the Donmar Warehouse.
