Megan Duckett of Sew What? Inc. and Rent What? Inc. Speaks at "Spark & Hustle" in Los Angeles

An inspirational business speaker, Megan Duckett, president of Sew What? Inc. and sister company Rent What? Inc., presenteder unique perspectives on business growth and personal success at "Spark & Hustle" in Los Angeles on May 31.

Spark & Hustle, a one-day, high-energy small business conference for current and aspiring female entrepreneurs is the brainchild of Women for Hire CEO Tory Johnson. The Los Angeles event, which takes place at the Four Points Sheraton is part of a 20-city tour across the US designed to teach attendees how to go from concept to cash right now.

Duckett is an entrepreneur who took her custom theatrical drapery business from a kitchen table sideline to become a suppliers to the entertainment industry. Sew What? now produces and rents (through sister company Rent What? Inc.) custom and digital backdrops, custom scrims, curtain tracks, pipe and drape systems, and other "soft goods" supplies for stage, film, and television productions, as well as rock and roll tours, fashion shows, trade shows, and other special events.

Her company's clients include artists such as Maroon 5, Slip Knot, Green Day, Sting, James Taylor, Dave Matthews Band, Madonna, Rod Stewart, and Don Henley. Her approach to business is purely grass-roots, crediting her success to her native Australian pluck (she immigrated to the US when she was 19), her endless passion, her tenacity, and creativity. She has been honored with numerous awards and recognitions for her innovative approach to business growth.

"It's always thrilling to share my ideas with others, and particularly with women who look at the ceiling and don't see glass at all, but a limitless opportunity to shape their own careers," said Duckett.

Success, she says, is all about the determination to muscle past perceived obstacles. "I lost a big job because Sew What? didn't have a website. But instead of throwing in the towel, I bought a book on web design and built the website over a single weekend."

Duckett joins an impressive roster of speakers who are also participating in the Spark & Hustle tour, including Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran; Carol's Daughter founder Lisa Price; Vera Bradley cofounder Barbara Bradley Baekgaard; Stella & Dot CEO Jessica Herrin; QVC cosmetics queen Laura Geller; Peeled Snacks founder Noha Waibsnaider; master chocolatier Julia Baker; MOGO Charms creator Paige Clark; and more. According to event organizers, 10,000 women will attend the conferences during the course of the tour.
