Richard Pilbrow Kicks Off Educational Seminars at PLASA Focus: OrlandoPLASA Focus: Orlando's educational seminar program will kick off at 9:00am on Tuesday, February 17 with a presentation by legendary lighting designer Richard Pilbrow titled "Light and Theatre - 50 Years of Change." Sponsored by elektraLite and held at the Rosen Plaza Hotel, Pilbrow will share a fascinating retrospective of theatre lighting's evolution over the past five decades as well as explore the rich possibilities that lie ahead. Immediately following the seminar, the veteran lighting designer will be signing books on the PLASA Focus: Orlando show floor at the Group One Limited (elektraLite / Avolites) booth, 408. Since establishing Theatre Projects in 1957, he has been a producer of theatre, film, and TV. As a founder of the ABTT, ALD, and STC, Pilbrow is also highly respected as a pioneer of stage lighting in the UK and was retained by Sir Laurence Olivier to be first lighting designer, and then theatre consultant, to the National Theatre of Great Britain. Pilbrow's books Stage Lighting (1970) and Stage Lighting Design - the Art, the Craft, the Life (1997) have become international texts, while his 2011 book, A Theatre Project, was the 2013 winner of the USITT Golden Pen Award. Under his leadership, Theatre Projects has become world's pre-eminent theatre consulting organization with more than 1,200 projects in over 70 countries to its credit.
