Winners Announced of Joseph Jefferson AwardsThe Joseph Jefferson Awards, given to honor achievement in Chicago's professional theatre scene, were given on Monday, October 17. The design winners are: Scenic Design - Large Jeffrey D. Kmiec, Deathtrap, Drury Lane Productions Scenic Design - Midsize Sarah E. Ross, The Rainmaker, American Blues Theater Lighting Design - Large Thom Weaver, The Tempest, Chicago Shakespeare Theater Lighting Design - Midsize Mike Durst, Adding Machine: A Musical, The Hypocrites Costume Design - Large Catherine Zuber, War Paint, Goodman Theatre Costume Design - Midsize Bill Morey, Dreamgirls, Porchlight Music Theatre Sound Design - Large André Pluess, Treasure Island, Lookingglass Theatre Company and Berkeley Repertory Theatre Sound Design - Midsize Brian Quijada, Where Did We Sit on the Bus?, Teatro Vista in association with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Victory Gardens Theater Projections/Video Design Shawn Sagady, 2666, Goodman Theatre Among the winners, Zuber's costumes for War Paint, about the makeup moguls Helena Rubenstein and Estee Lauder, will be seen in New York, when the production transfers to Broadway in the spring. Where Did We Sit on the Bus?, with sound design by the writer and star, Brian Quijada, recently concluded an acclaimed New York run. Shawn Sagady designed video for 2666, based on the acclaimed cult novel by the late Chilean novelist Roberto Bolano. Quijada, of Where Did We Sit on the Bus?, is the only individual to pick up two awards. Ride the Cyclone, which took the award for director of a musical, will be seen at New York's MCC Theater in November and December, with Rockwell once again directing.
