Reliability Rules at Glastonbury FOH Positions with ChamSys

Warren used ChamSys products at six different sites.

Magic flourishes in the fields at Worthy Farm. How else to explain the sudden appearance of beautiful, unexpected unicorn events every year at Glastonbury?

The 2024 edition of the iconic festival was no exception. For example, there was that moment under the baking sun on Friday near the end of the legendary Paul Heaton's show on the Pyramid Stage when, out of nowhere, his former Housemartins bandmate, Norman Cook (aka FatBoy Slim) came on stage, a bass guitar strapped around his neck for the first time in years.

Unexpected treasures like this were the rule at Glastonbury this year, but one thing that did not surprise (much to the delight of the festival's LDs, including Patrick Sollitt, who ran the Heaton show) was the reliable performance of the ChamSys consoles and PC Wings that seemed to be everywhere at the festival. (Sollitt powered his spot-on show to perfection with a ChamSys MagicQ MQ500M Stadium Console.)

Another surprise at the Pyramid Stage came when Burna Boy took off his shirt and twirled it over his head during his performance of "Ye," and asked the crowd to do likewise. Everyone enjoyed it. They also loved the stunning light show that Anthony Hazelden ran without a hitch on his ChamSys MagicQ MQ500M Stadium Console.

The versatility of the ChamSys MagicQ MQ500M Stadium Console, provided by Fineline Lighting, was on full display at the Big Top Circus Tent, where operators Rory and Tom, used it (along with a MagicQ MQ70 and GeNetix GN5 Node), to woo the crowd running a design by James Loudon. There was more fun at the Flying Bus Stage, where a MQ500M and 500M Wing from GLX Productions powered the show.

As usual, Ed Warren was a busy man at Glastonbury. At the Pyramid Stage he worked with operator Amy Barnett to control the GLS supplied floor package with a ChamSys MagicQ MQ500M Stadium Console, creating an electrifying show that served as the ideal complement to the psychedelic soul sound of Mercury winner, Michael Kiwanuka.

ChamSys' own brand of reliable magic wasn't limited to a few stages at the festival. Warren used ChamSys products at six different sites, including the Car Henge art installation, where he collaborated with Will Thomas. He also used ChamSys for Sugababes at West Holts where Kristina Jazykova operated a MQ500M.

Over at the Levels Stage, SR Production Services and lighting designer James Newmarch delivered impeccable high-energy shows with a MQ500M+ Stadium Console, and four GeNetix GN10 nodes. They used 114 universes of control with 88 universes of 3D pixel mapping running from video content loaded directly into the console on this stage.

The ChamSys MagicQ MQ250M Stadium Console also made its presence felt throughout the festival, including at the brand new Wishing Well Stage, as David Howard Lighting Design conjured up some dreamy transcendent looks. Then there was the Lonely Hearts Stage, where SR Production Services provided a unit to Kai Mcilquham who adroitly worked it to move with the dance beats of DJ Wilkinson.

Luke Adams Lighting used a ChamSys MagicQ MQ250M to run things flawlessly at The Hive Stage. On the Peace Stage, LD Harry Merrison used a console supplied by PF Events to create some immersive panoramas. At Glasto Latino, Mass Affect Lighting used it to create red hot looks.

South West Group Events kept things running smoothly at Left Field Stage with a ChamSys MagicQ MQ70 console and Extra Wing. At the ever-popular Stonebridge Bar, LD James Dickinson kept the energy level high with an MQ70 for Annie Mac's set.

At the Avalon Stage where folk and roots music reigned, a ChamSys PC Wing was used for Kate Nash and a MagicQ MQ500M was used Sunday for The Cat Empire. The ChamSys QuickQ 20 also got in the act, as BSM used the affordable console at the Glebe Stage, an outdoor theatre that, in the words of the festival organizers "hosts the kinds of acts that might surprise you."
