Unisson Structures Creates a New Stage on the Plains of AbrahamOne of the biggest covered stages ever designed in North America is up on the Plains of Abraham for the summer. At the request of the Festival d'été de Québec (FEQ), according to the company, a Quebec-based Canadian company, designed and manufactured the biggest aluminum outdoor, mobile covered stage ever produced on this continent. To meet the diverse requirements of international bands and performers, the FEQ specially-ordered a custom stage compliant with the latest global standards. Unisson Structures, a company specialized in aluminum structures and staging equipment, was awarded to design what is the Bell Stage of the Plains of Abraham during the Festival. Unisson Structures is located just north of Montreal, in St-Roch-de-l'Achigan Quebec and founded in 1977 by Pierre Jobin at the age of 21. Unisson Structures is pushing the limits further with its new patented Hi-Roof, a covered stage. "We are proud to offer one of the greatest technological achievements thus far in the world of stages. By working with the knowledgeable directors of the Festival d'été de Québec, folks who are the best placed to know the needs and requirements of major groups, we were better able to pinpoint and address the underlying challenges faced by our clients," explains Olivier Jobin, son of Pierre Jobin. Over the past few years, ingenuity has been a key element for organizers of the Festival d'été de Québec in order to integrate certain bands, notably Rammstein and Metallica. "We really had to expand our main stage and improve our technical capabilities while also increasing safety standards," commented Patrick Martin, production director for the Festival. "Unisson presented us with a totally new concept that met all the criteria." The Unison Structures Hi-Roof has a total span of 224' wide by 86' high and 109' in depth, the stage provides a performance area of 90' x 60' (5,310-sq.ft.). It can support 150lb. Per square foot, in addition to an evenly distributed pre-rigged capacity of 150,000lb. The Hi-Roof has a wind resistance of 120km/h. Sixty technicians set up the Hi-Roof starting on June 7, kicking off the 2013 festival season for Quebec City. The premier festival was the Fête Nationale which featured Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, The Black Keys, Wu-Tang Clan, M, MGMT, Weezer, Passion Pit, Tiësto, Def Leopard, Rush, Les Trois Accords, Paul McCartney, and many more.
