Clay Paky Lights Sascha Grammel: Much More than Just a Puppet TheatreWhen he is on stage, Sascha Grammel makes his puppets dance in the true sense of the word! Grammel developed his own style straight away. He called it puppet comedy and it brings together theatrical elements with puppets, ventriloquism, and magic. His new show debuted earlier this year, and has now been produced for TV at the Theater am Marientor in Duisburg. It has been recorded on DVD too. For the lighting, Firma P2 Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH & Co.Kg relied largely on Lightpower, Clay Paky's distributor for Germany. P2 Veranstaltungstechnik provided 16 Clay Paky B-EYE K10 Easy luminaires, 54 Clay Paky B-EYE K20s, one MA Lighting grandMA2 light, and two grandMA2 full-size lighting desks, two MA plus MK2 Video Processing Units (VPUs), and two MA Network Processing Units (NPUs). P2 Veranstaltungstechnik's CEO, Ralf Thiemann, explained: "We have dealt with Sascha Grammel's shows for more than six years. In this project, we had to transform the tour production into something suitable for the TV, at the same time considering the requirements imposed by choosing a theatre. Since we had mainly chosen Lightpower products for the ongoing tour, like the Clay Paky B-EYEs and grandMA2 lighting desks, it made sense to use this equipment for the television production too. We have had totally positive experiences with all the products and are very satisfied with their performance." "We used the B-EYEs in the production as washlights," Thiemann continued. "They don't just provide extraordinarily effective colors, but also bring the right amount of even light onto the stage. With the MA VPUs, we controlled the two side screens and the LED tiles, which were fitted behind the Windows of the houses on the set. The interaction with the grandMA2s worked flawlessly."
