Rose Brand Awards $10,000 Custom Main Stage Curtain to Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School in Video ContestBrooklyn Theatre Arts HS wins the new custom main stage curtain valued at up to $10,000 in The Rose Brand "Rags To Riches" video contest. The contest invited any organization with a stage to send in a creative video expressing their need for a new main stage curtain. Videos were judged by Rose Brand managers on the basis of creativity/entertainment value, demonstration of organizational need, and the number of "likes" received across Rose Brand's Pinterest and Vimeo sites. The winning video (http://www.pinterest.com/pin/149463281358993921/), described the Brooklyn high school's need in playful visuals and lyrics that were sung to the tune of "My Favorite Things" from the 1965 film The Sound of Music. Rose Brand executive vice president Josh Jacobstein says, "We received a number of videos that were wonderfully entertaining and many organizations deserve recognition for their terrific efforts. However, the Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School brought a smile to everyone's face. Our employees loved it." In describing the marketing program, Rose Brand Marketing's Louis Peter says, "We created the contest to give back to the community and engage segments of our target audience in a fun, positive activity. The contest also reinforces our brand message that we produce amazingly beautiful stage curtains, not just for Broadway theatres and events such as The Academy Awards, but for schools, community theatres, and houses of worship as well." At the outset of the program, Rose Brand created its own playful video to generate contest entries (http://www.pinterest.com/pin/149463281358820396/). Organizations from across the country submitted videos, including high schools, junior high schools, elementary schools, churches, and theatres. Video themes included new lyrics to popular songs, mocking TV commercials or famous movie/theatre sequences, hip hop dancing, as well as straightforward expression of curtain damage suffered from natural disasters. All organizations demonstrated need and many generated over a thousand social media "likes" for their videos.
