Hemsley Lighting Programs Portfolio Review Set for April 12The Hemsley Lighting Programs annual lighting portfolio reviews exhibit and reception will take place Sunday, April 12, 5:30 - 8:00pm at the School of American Ballet, 70 Lincoln Center (Rose Building) on the fifth floor. The entrance is at 165 West 65th Street, on the plaza. The exhibit features the work of 32 graduating lighting students from design programs all across the country who display their work following a day-long review by professional designers, directors, and production personnel. Mark Stanley, vice-president of the Hemsley Lighting Programs board, notes that the event has become popular with many in New York's lighting community. "It is an excellent opportunity to catch up with old friends and to meet with many of tomorrow's talents," he says. The Hemsley Lighting Programs, Inc. was originally established in 1983 as The Gilbert V. Hemsley, Jr. Internship in Lighting in honor of this unique and much beloved man. Gilbert V. Hemsley was responsible for the launching of so many careers in the theatre that when the idea for the Internship was suggested, the outpouring of both good will and financial support created the framework upon which the program was formed and has been sustained. The organization sponsors a variety of programs, including internships, mentorships, master classes, a young lighting designers' forum at USITT, and the portfolio review.
