Navigator System Ltd Is Ready for New GDPR Requirements

Since late 2017, the Navigator Systems Ltd. team of software developers has been working to adapt its HireTrack NX software to ensure its customers meet the European Union's May 25th deadline to be "GDPR Compliant." The EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new privacy regulation that will require companies to protect the personal information of people against potential fraud and mismanagement.

Managing director David Rose explained, "While we feel that the GDPR is predominantly aimed at regulating companies such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter, who process and sell a lot of data, this new regulation affects us all -- even smaller companies that process just a limited amount of data. Even if a company uses data legitimately there is still a lot of work to do around the GDPR to rework privacy policies, update user access to personal data. It is essentially to make what data is held where and why that data is being stored much more transparent. We never share your details with third parties without your permission and we never have, nor ever will sell your data to anyone."

The GDPR defines personal data as anything that can identify a human being -- so something as simple as your email address or phone number is considered personal data. Rose continued, "We have responsibility firstly for the data that we collect from you, the Navigator Systems prospect or client, and secondly for the data that you may collect and pass to us about your clients, which is easily done while investigating a tech support issue. Within HireTrack NX we have enhanced security restrictions and have changed how you send data to us. On the sales side, our marketing emails have always been opt-in and we rely on your consent or our legitimate business interests to send emails to you. We have never purchased or sold email lists."

GDPR is not only affecting companies in the European Union, but also companies around the world doing business with companies in the EU. Greg Smith of Navigator Systems US explained, "Our operations in the US are also affected by GDPR in that our offices must certify that we are meeting GDPR requirements through the Privacy Shield program. Because we too have access to support records, as well as marketing information, US companies must also meet these new privacy requirements.
