AVW-TELAV Has AV Week Officially Declared in Canada In honor of this year's fifth annual celebration of AV Week around the world, AVW-TELAV Audio Visual Solutions has had October 16-22 officially recognized by every major Canadian city that hosts an AVW-TELAV branch and honors a proclamation-signing policy. Established by InfoComm International, AV Week is an international event held to promote acknowledgement and the prevalence of AV in our lives; increase awareness of the career opportunities available in the audio visual industry; and educate the public about the value of AV to inform, inspire, and save lives. As the leading voice promoting the audio visual industry, InfoComm International created AV Week as a platform for members to interact with the public about the value of AV. This year, AVW-TELAV's goal was to have an AV Week proclamation signed by the mayors of every major Canadian city in which AVW-TELAV resides. However, only six of the 15 proclamation requests AVW-TELAV sent were fulfilled, because many Canadian cities no longer issue proclamations in recognition of events. "As the leading audio visual solutions company in Canada, we feel it is our social responsibility to raise awareness of our industry across the nation," said Johanne BĂ©langer, president, AVW-TELAV Audio Visual Solutions and member of InfoComm International's board of directors. "On behalf of the entire AV industry in Canada, I would like to personally thank Mayor Dennis O'Keefe, of St. John's, Newfoundland; Mayor George LeBlanc, of Moncton, New Brunswick; Mayor Brad Woodside, of Fredericton, New Brunswick; Mayor Stephen Mandel, of Edmonton, Alberta; Mayor Naheed Nenshi, of Calgary, Alberta; and Mayor Jim Watson, of Ottawa, Ontario, who joined their colleagues throughout the country in sponsoring official proclamations, or letters of recognition, to declare October 16-22 2011, as AV Week. I hope this important gesture will help raise awareness of the AV industry and garner the attention of end users, potential customers and students who might be encouraged to consider careers in AV."
