Pete's Big TVs Enhanced Donny & Marie's Christmas ShowsVideo equipment rental company Pete's Big TVs supplied a full video HD production system for Donny & Marie: Christmas in Los Angeles December 4-23 at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre. Pete's Big TVs' Guy Benjamin said: "The design was similar to their past Christmas shows last year in Chicago and Detroit, which we worked on as well." Based in New Castle, Delaware, Pete's Big TVs provided a full HD production system with three digiLED MC7 LED screens, plus three Sony HDC1500 cameras, and two robotic cameras. Brian Brinckman was the engineer and Brent Jones was LED tech. The two-hour performance followed a variety-show format, with a stage set featuring a Christmas tree and a fireplace, along with choreographed dancers and a live orchestra. The three screens, hung above and behind the orchestra onstage, displayed a combination of graphics, holiday-themed images, and historic video footage, enhancing the singing and dancing of hits and festive songs. Clips from old TV shows accompanied Marie's "Paper Roses," Donny's "Puppy Love," and the Osmond Family's "Yo Yo," during which Donny danced along onstage with the routine in the video behind him. IMAG also captured some of the live action onstage for parts of the show. The digiLED screens were chosen because of the high resolution required for the video. The panels also emitted no radio frequency interference to interfere with the audio. Lighting designers Peter Morse and Joseph Lucas Eddy designed the lighting, and Morse collaborated with Butch Allen on the set and video design. The design was a scaled-down version of Donny & Marie's Flamingo Hotel performances in Las Vegas. Even with their Pantages Theatre dates, the brother-sister duo performed in Vegas through the end of 2012. Utah-based MagicSpace Entertainment was the producer and presenter of the Christmas show.
