Shure Supports Exceptional Sound at the 2022 ESPY AwardsCelebrating the best players, teams, and moments in the world of sports, this year's ESPY Awards benefitted from clear and natural audio that elevated the voices of the show. Broadcast live from Los Angeles on ABC, the ESPYs were complete with performances by well-known recording artists, commentary from top athletes, and touching speeches by special guests. Production teams, performers, and athletes all relied on a robust lineup of Shure gear to deliver clear audio to guests in Los Angeles and viewers at home. Soundtronics Wireless and Clair/ATK provided the event's wireless system design and coordination, bringing audio clarity and steadfast RF reliability to the ESPY Awards with the support of 27 channels of Shure Axient Digital. RF technician Corey Dodd of Soundtronics depended on Axient Digital to ensure all wireless remained uninterrupted throughout the evening. Meanwhile, Paul Wittman, production sound mixer for this year's ESPY Awards, along with Jeff Peterson (FOH mixer) and Steven Anderson (lead A2), relied exclusively on Shure microphones, including the new, state-of-the-art KSM11 wireless condenser microphone capsule, to capture voices of the broadcast in unmatched clarity. Redefining vocal performance, the KSM11 capsule enables digital wireless systems to present live vocals with a prized combination of full lows, clear mids, and high-end detail, without the need for extensive EQ, the company says. "Shure Axient Digital microphones were the only choice for the 2022 ESPYs live awards broadcast," says Wittman. "The evening demanded highly reliable wireless microphone technology that could sound clear and natural on a variety of voices. Be it speakers, special guests, or well-known recording artists, Shure mics cover all the bases. The KSM9 has long been a favorite of mine, and I'm even more impressed with the brand new KSM11 capsule." Performers and speakers also depended on Shure KSM9 and SM58 microphone capsules, as well as TwinPlex subminiature lavaliers, to deliver the sounds of the ESPY Awards to a global audience without interruption. Additionally, Monitor Mixer Andres Arango relied on the Shure PSM 1000 In-Ear Personal Monitoring System for Mickey Guyton, along with her pianist and choir, during a moving musical tribute to women in sports. Not to be outdone, professional basketball player Draymond Green, sitting alongside actor and comedian Lil Rel Howery, comically interrupted host and NBA superstar Steph Curry, and engaged with the audience while speaking into the iconic SM7B Vocal Microphone. "We're honored to have had Clair/ATK and Soundtronics Wireless trust our gear at another high-profile broadcast event," shares Jenn Liang-Chaboud, Shure artist and entertainment relations senior specialist. "And we're proud to equip their team with the most reliable wireless audio technology in the industry. Congratulations as always on capturing a spectacular event that inspires so many."
