Osram Sylvania Showcases at LDI LED Architectural Downlight and HMI Metal Halide Lamps with New Safety Feature

Osram Sylvania will be demonstrating the latest in lighting innovations at LDI 2014, including the Osram RLD6, a 6" LED architectural downlight which boasts high performance and energy savings up to 65%, and provides a long-life alternative for compact fluorescent, halogen, and metal halide sources, with light powered by Osram LED technology, the company says. In addition, the company will be displaying a group of single-end HMI metal halide lamps that incorporate a doped UV-Stop (UVS) quartz outer jacket which reduces UVB and UVC emissions up to 99.9%. UVS not only extends the life of fixture components, it also reduces UV emissions from the back of fixtures, the company says. The innovative lighting technologies from Osram Sylvania will be shown at Booth #1937 at LDI 2014, the marketplace for the entertainment technology and design industry.

Designed for providing high quality general illumination in lobbies and hallways, the Osram RLD6 Recessed LED Downlight is highly efficient with typical efficacies of up to 79 lumens per watt (LPW), and has a life rating of 50,000 hours (L70), the company says. The glare-free optical system is comprised of a highly reflective upper reflector inside the mixing chamber that controls beam shaping and light distribution. The lower reflector provides deep lamp-to-lamp image cutoff of 46-degrees. Assembled in the United States, this system combines to create a highly efficient luminaire that produces low aperture brightness for comfortable light and a near 'silent' ceiling, delivering exceptional beam uniformity and cut- off, the company says. The 1200 lumen (18W) downlight provides performance similar to 1x32W, 1x42W or 2x26W compact fluorescent downlights, and, designed for higher ceiling applications, the 2000 lumen (30W) downlight provides performance similar to 2X32W compact fluorescent or 1x70W metal halide downlights.

The downlight for 120V - 277VAC operation incorporates OSRAM PrevaLED Core light engines that provide color consistency within a 3-step MacAdam ellipse and Osram Optotronic power supplies with built-in 0-10VDC protocol for continuous, smooth dimming down to 1%. RLD6 downlights are available in 2,700K, 3,000K, 3,500K, and ,4000K CCT packages and four standard trim finishes, and are covered by a five-year warranty. They are RoHS-compliant and designed to meet Energy Star qualifications for utility incentives.

Nearly eliminating UV radiation, new single-end Osram HMI UVS Metal Halide lamps come with an orange base and are available in 200W, 400W, 575W, 800W, 1,200W, 1,600W, and 1,800W versions, delivering 16,000 - 165,000 lumens with an average rated life up to 1,000 hours. Invented by Osram in 1967, HMI lamps remain the standard light source for the film and television industry because they simulate daylight color temperature conditions of 6,000K and have excellent color rendering (90+) with photometric integrity throughout their life, the company says. In fact, Osram received an Oscar in 1987 and a Primetime Emmy Engineering award in 2007 for the invention and continuous improvement of HMI lamp technology. Highly efficient HMI lamps have a high luminous efficacy of nearly 100 LPW and are available in single or double end with wattages ranging from 200 - 24,000. Dimmable, with a hot restart capacity, Osram HMI lamps are over five times more efficient than incandescent light. Applications include exhibition lighting; film, TV and video productions; industrial solar simulation; lighting for major events; professional photography; and stage lighting such as theatre and opera.

Also at the show will be the Osram Kreios SL 3200K/60W fixture, designed as a set light for theatres and studios or for general wash illumination in museums, theme parks, churches, casinos, night clubs, cruise ships, and retail. The fixture delivers 3,000 lumens, equal to a traditional 250W halogen lamp, offering superior illumination while using only 60W of power. This translates to 75% less energy compared to halogen alternatives and substantial cost savings. These features helped the Kreios SL fixture be selected for the 2013 Illuminating Engineering Society of North America Progress Report, which highlighted significant advancements in the art and science of lighting, the company says.

The LED set light fixture has a rated life of 30,000 hours (L70), 15 - 100 times the life of a typical halogen lamp. The 3,200K color temperature and 95 CRI ensure accurate color rendering, crucial for showcasing attractive skin tones and eye-catching wardrobes in TV studios and theatres. Multiple mounting options and a 40 - 120-degree adjustable beam angle with locking position ring make it easy for the Kreios SL 3200K/60W fixture to deliver high quality light exactly where it is needed, the company says. A fixed-focus 24-degree reflector is also available for applications requiring a tighter beam pattern.
