LDI Award Winners Announced

GLP stand at LDI 2018, winner of the Best Large Booth award

The LDI Awards were handed out on Friday, October 19, the first day of the Live Design Show in Las Vegas. Winners of the booth awards included CAST Software (Best Small Booth), GLP (Best Large Booth), Ayrton (Best Use of Light), and Blizzard and Mod Truss (Best Product Presentation).

The award for Best Debuting Product: Sound went to the Cyclone 8 loudspeaker from Void Acoustics, part of a series of units developed to raise the levels of audio quality and visual aesthetics for a wide range of outdoor applications that involve exposure to the elements. This range uses a combination of marine-grade 316 stainless steel hardware and UV stabilized finishes to ensure a durable and robust product range.

In the Best Debuting Product: Widget category, honorable mention went to DMXDoohickey from Doug Fleenor Design. The winner was the ProPlex IQ Tester LV and ProPlex 6-Pack from TMB. The first Ethernet tester designed for entertainment production, the device easily performs many functions essential and useful for setting up and trouble-shooting today's show networking. A short list includes Wireshark for analysis of any Ethernet protocol, plus network troubleshooting; PoE tester; SMPTE time code, LTC receiver/analyzer and LTC transmitter; full DMX analysis, control, and testing; RDM controller; and bidirectional Ethernet-DMX gateway. Also, update Solaris/ProPlex firmware without a PC!

In the category of Best Debuting Product: Special Effects, honorable mention went to BOREAS C6 Silent Snow Cube from Froggy's Fog. The winner was the PixMob moving head and wand transmitter, which, according to a show statement "creates an engagement between lighting, performer, and the audience with an unique, interactive vision for participation in live events."

In the category of Best Debuting Product: Staging and Rigging, honorable mention went to DNA Truss from Cosmic Truss/GLP German Light Products. The winner was the Leito Concert Shell Light from Wenger Corp., the first LED light fixture specifically designed for use in full-stage acoustical shells. With a 12,000-lumen output, Lieto allows for fewer light fixtures in the acoustical shell ceiling while providing consistent, bright light for the performers on stage. The Lieto fixture is silent, with no buzzing or detectable RFI. Lieto is comfortable with minimal heat output and no UV.

In the category of Best Debuting Product: Video/Projection, honorable mention went to the D Series of LED components from Schnick-Schnack Systems. The winner was the Pixera media server software from AV Stumpfl. Pixera is a 64-bit system for real-time media processing, compositing and management, built around the key theme of usability. Users can gradually discover the options and features and can smoothly transition from being a beginner to becoming a specialist. Actions in the 2D and 3D space follow the same mechanisms. The system was designed so that users can execute the most important basic actions in record time and with minimum effort.

In the category of Best Debuting Product: Lighting Fixture, honorable mention went to Artiste Monet from Elation Professional. The winner was the Art-Centric lighting system from ADB Stagelight, described as "a tunable white light fixture for lighting works of fine art with sensitivity and class. The sport or wash with a CRI of 97 is controllable via Bluetooth."

The winner in the Lighting Accessories and Integration category was the Multiverse transmitter from City Theatrical, Inc., which "can broadcast up to 10 universes of DMX or RDM data from a single transmitter while producing less radio energy than current single-universe systems."
