NEXO Announces New Alpha + Hybrid Source Sound System

Alpha + is a three-box system comprising M210 Main, B218 Bass and L20 Sub-bass modules.

Back in the 1990s, NEXO introduced its Alpha Series, a large-scale point source system focused primarily on mid to large size front-of-house applications.

Now the French manufacturer announces the launch of Alpha +, a hybrid source sound reinforcement system that draws on the spirit of its forerunner while applying new technologies to optimize performance and flexibility in a range of settings from live music and clubs to theatres and venues.

Quick and easy to stack, Alpha + is a three-box system comprising M210 Main, B218 Bass and L20 Sub-bass modules.

The M210 is a horn-loaded 2-by-10" with 4-by-3" HF compression drivers, the B218 a horn-loaded 2-by-18" and the L20 a band-pass 1-by-20" taken from the existing P+ Series range. With a comprehensive range of hardware available, stacked and installed systems of various sizes can be configured with main and bass modules typically used together in a ratio of 1:1.

The continuously varying horizontal directivity from 60 degrees at the top of the M210 main module to 120 degrees at the bottom can be modified to 90/120 degrees or 60/60 degrees using flanges, and the waveguide block can be "unlocked" and its articulation changed from narrow vertical coverage (0/-20 degrees) to wide/standard (+20/-20 degrees). Such control over dispersion characteristics gifts Alpha + with many of the benefits of line array coupling in a configuration referred to by NEXO as Hybrid Source, the company says, along with the easy deployment typical of point source systems.

NEXO's four 4,500W (2 Ohms) NXAMP4X4Mk2 powered TD controller is said to provide the perfect amplification and processing platform for the Alpha + Series. A basic stacked system of one M210, one B218, and two L20 left and right requires a single NXAMP4X4Mk2 for each side, with two channels for the main, one for the bass and one for both subs.

Speaking at the launch of Alpha + at ISE in Barcelona, NEXO sales and marketing director Gareth Collyer says, "Like its predecessor, Alpha + is an impressively powerful system, with new features that make a lot of sense in the modern world.

"A stacked system that can handle a mid-sized festival stage saves a lot of cost building towers and flying line arrays and Alpha + goes where a line array won't such as theatres and venues without hanging points.

"And all the club-goers around the world who've enjoyed a great night on an Alpha-powered dancefloor are in for a real treat when they hear Alpha +".
