The design program, taught by award-wining professional faculty, stresses an interaction with the works of many sound and visual artists from a wide range of disciplines. In addition to two black box venues, UCSD and the Tony Award winning La Jolla Playhouse share a four-theatre complex. Students also have access to the cutting-edge research facilities and production spaces of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (CalIt2) and the Center for Research in Computing and the Arts (CRCA) at UCSD. Student designers participate in a residency program at the Playhouse, and normally work as assistants to visiting professional designers. Recent Projects:
Topdog/Underdog  The House of Bernarda Alba Camino Real La Mandragola, The Revenger's Tragedy (as reality-TV) The Seagull winterWORKS (Theatre Dance performances) and Seven Against Thebes. Recent productions have garnered local Patte Awards and USITT awards in lighting, sound, costume, and set designs
